Alessio Abbruzzese

I take photographs to explore both the world and myself.

What drives you to create?

What fascinates me most about photography is the possibility of creating a testimony that can last forever. I’ve always been drawn to documenting the traces of our passage across the landscape.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by the mountains near my home — their rural environments, the people who inhabit them, their stories, ideas, and visions.

How do you bring your works to life?

I’ve been shooting mostly on film for quite some time now.
Each roll, reacting differently to light, becomes an active part of the creative process.
Analog photography sets its own rhythm — it slows me down, makes me reflect, and helps me feel closer to nature and my subjects.

Because my camera is from the 1980s, I’m always afraid that the frame won’t be properly captured on film — so I take every photo at least twice.
The Basilica of San Frediano, with its beautiful decorated façade — not exactly hidden, but it has always fascinated me.
